I’m a dealer/rep and I want to know more about ETC’s Technician Certification or Authorized Service Provider programs; can you share some info?
We have created this infographic to show the overview of the program:

I’m a dealer/rep and I want to become a Certified Technician or an Authorized Service Provider. Where do I start?
A: Our technician certification program begins with the completion of the Technician Foundations Level 1 in one of our Sales Partners catalogs in LearningStage. Make sure your ETC Customer Service Representative has assigned you the dealer or rep role
to view this content.
How do our technicians get started with training?
To begin training, each technician needs an ETC One log-in associated with a professional email address of the dealership or rep agency by which they are employed. They will then start with Technician Foundations Level 1, an online learning plan that
covers ETC products and services, which can be found in one of the Sales Partner catalogs in LearningStage.
Can you give a quick breakdown of the steps to become an ETC Authorized Service Provider from start to finish?
Here are the quick steps to become an ETC Authorized Service Provider:
- Complete the Technician Foundations Level 1 learning plan in LearningStage
- Complete the Termination Technician Certification
- Complete the Select Authorized Technician Certification
- Complete a checkride
What is the final phase of technician training?
The final training phase to become an Authorized Service Provider is the Select Authorized Technician Certification, which is composed of the Select Authorized Technician learning plan in LearningStage and the week-long System Startup Training and a final
checkride to be scheduled within 24 months of completing the System Startup Training.
I’m a dealer/rep, where can I find the technician training dates?
The full technician training events schedule – for both lighting and rigging technicians – can be found in MyETC, 2025 Technician Training Calendars next to the Quick Links (on desktop). Exception to this are the online Concert webinars and Foundations
of Time Estimations webinars. Registration links for these trainings can be found within the learning plans that must be completed to become a certified lighting technician.
The Echo, Echoflex, and Mosaic Boot Camps are considered specialized trainings and are open to the public. You can register for those from our Training page.
I am an ASP, how do I remain certified?
In 2025, ASP certification is maintained by participating in 4 x Technician Study Halls, 1 x Quality Round Table, and by either coming to Conference or paying the recertification fee in the ETC online shop.
Does the new one-year recertification format immediately supersede previously issued two-year certifications?
No, the new annual renewal policy does not supersede existing two-year certifications. ETC will honor the validity of your two-year certification. You will begin paying the annual recertification fee when your current two-year certification expires.
Technician Conference (the replacement for Recertification Training) is optional but now I see you have added a recertification fee, what’s the deal with that?
The difference in price covers the costs of in-person Conference. The recertification fee covers our costs of ASP business cards, access to LightDesigner, Authorized Technician Knowledgebase, and for an active listing on the ETC ASP roster to be scheduled
for startups and service calls.
Why is there an annual recertification fee now?
The shift to an annual recertification fee is a direct result of evolving our technician training program and renewal process. Previously, the fees collected at in-person recertification events helped cover the costs of providing training. Now that much
of the recertification process is moving online, we're adjusting how we collect those necessary funds.
This annual fee allows us to offer online courses, many at a minimal cost or free, and helps us administer the technician program. Over the next few years, you can expect to see more diverse online resources and training opportunities to help you stay
current with existing products, learn about new ones, and enhance your ETC ASP skills.
How can I, as a technician, track my status in my certification?
If you are a Termination, Commercial, or Select Authorized Technician navigate to your My Activities page in LearningStage. Select Certification from the left-hand menu. Here you will be able to see what certifications you hold, when they were issued,
when they will expire, and how long you have to renew them.
If you are an ASP navigate to your My Activities page in LearningStage. Select Badges from the left-hand menu. You need a total of three badges to remain certified each year:
- ASP – [Current Year] Study Hall Requirement Complete
- ASP - [Current Year] Quality Roundtable
- ASP - [Current Year] Recert Fee Paid
