Applications Open for 2023 ETC Fred Foster Student Mentorship Program

ETC is now accepting applications for the 2023 Fred Foster Student Mentorship Program. Entering its 25^th year, this program connects selected students with established industry professionals, ultimately pairing them with mentors who will help guide their transition into the working world. ETC will accept applications to the 2023 program through April 7, 2023.

The program is rooted in ETC Founder Fred Foster’s passion for both lighting and mentorship. It was his vision to encourage young talent, the future of the industry, by connecting them with influential luminaries as they kick off their careers.

ETC hosts both a North American and International branch of the program. Selected North American students will attend a series of virtual networking events during the summer, meeting a variety of professionals working in different specialties within the industry. Each student will be matched with at least one industry mentor who will provide career guidance for the next year and often beyond. 

ETC plans networking activities for the International program based on students’ regions of study and level of experience. 

North American program applications are open to students in their final year of undergraduate study or second- and third-year graduate students.

The International program is open to students from outside of North America who are studying at the university level or demonstrate a keen interest in lighting and design through the submission of a CV. 

“I think the best thing about the mentorship program that still holds true is the people you meet, especially the other students,” says Marissa Michaels, a program alum now working at the Atlanta Opera as a Lighting Supervisor. “We all still keep in touch and reach out to each other for advice. Those friendships and connections are something I hold close to my heart.”
