CLOUDS IN MANUFACTURING
During the construction of the Manufacturing expansion, Fred created some stretched-metal panels (like the second floor walls in Town Square) to diffuse the sunlight coming in through the skylights. He asked a team of scenic artists to paint realistic cloud scenes on the panels. The artists hid painted images of Sandhill cranes and a portrait of Fred as a cloud in a couple of the panels.
The door to Fred's Office was usually open whenever he was at his desk.

One of the most popular machines in the Metal Shop has a permanent operator: Bobblehead Fred stands atop the robotic arm that flips the metal sheets.

Glass Art above the Clock Tower
The crystal atop the clock tower is an actual piece of art. It was created by Christopher Ries, the artist-in-residence at Schott Glass in Pennsylvania, and given to Fred Foster as a gift from Bob Gilson, one of the founding members of ETC.

All of the people depicted in the windows and doorways of Town Square are inspired by figures in Hopper's paintings.
painted on the walls above the Deli and the fire escape are advertisements for companies that pioneered the lighting industry but have since gone out of business-- Major Lighting and Kliegl Brothers.
INSPIRATION FOR THE "BEAR PIT"
A bear pit was an open-roofed purpose-built structure which began to appear in England and Europe in the late middle ages to stage a form of public entertainment known as 'bear-baiting'.
Bear-baiting pits became substantial structures that influenced the construction of theatres. English theaters in the 16th century were typically 3 stories with roofed galleries and an open 'pit' area. The images below depict The Bear Garden next to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and a rehearsal at the Swan Theater in 1596..
THE DRAWING ROOM (3rd Floor Lounge)
This space was created as a workspace and home base for visiting employees, as well as an additional breakout area.
The third floor has chalkboard walls, custom artwork, computer stations, and mismatched but complementary furniture.
Battersea Power Station outside of London was the inspiration for the clock tower.
