Your Computer's Network Settings

This section overview the possible network address options which are set on the computer that you will connect to your lighting network and use to run GCE

Network Address Options

There are three network address options that can be used on a Net3 network.

  • Static IP address - allows manual assignment of IP addressing for the configuration computer and all connected devices.
  • Dynamic IP address (using a DHCP server) - automatic configuration of IP addresses from a DHCP Server (recommended setting). This system scales very well from small to large networks.
  • Automatic private IP address with Link-local IP address support - will accept DHCP server IP addressing if they are available or provide itself an IP address when no DHCP service is present. This option is not supported by all Net3 devices.

Changing Your Network Settings

Because there are many compatible Windows® Operating Systems (OS), it is best to reference the available Help system within your OS to determine how to change the network settings. Your network settings should allow you to go between a Net3 lighting network and your standard home or office network if you need to. Additionally, if there is a DHCP server running on your lighting network, it will automatically assign an address for you.
