The Obsession II (Obsession 2) console was the successor to the Obsession 1, and was similar from a programming point of view. Obsession2 is a natively tracking console.

Obsession II systems are natively networked; each system has at least one processor unit (known as an RPU - Remote Processor Unit), which is the 'brains' of the system, which may be networked to one or more Facepanels - i.e. the actual user interface to the system. It is important to remember that all the actual show data, and the processing for executing cues etc, is all handled by the RPU.

Obsession II had the ability to operate as a full tracking backup console; this meant that two RPUs could be configured to work as a pair, and if one fails due to either software or hardware problems, the other takes over control seamlessly. Obsession II systems were usually sold as a Single Processor System (SPS), consisting of a facepanel plus one processor, or a Dual Processor System (DPS), consisting of of a facepanel with two processors in a tracking backup arrangement.

Obsession II was originally an ETCNet(1) device; However, in software releases above version 4 the console switched to supporting ETCNet2.

Obsession II was available with channel counts of 750, 1536, 3072 or 4608 channels. The number of dimmers (outputs) supported was 9,216 using outputs from ETCNet2 nodes, with three physical DMX ouputs on the back of the processor rack.
