Many SMPTE output devices use a 1/4" mono plug for unbalanced output.
In this case, Signal+ and Common are tied together (XLR pins 1 & 2). Signal- remains on XLR pin 3.
On the 1/4" plug, Signal+ and Common tie to the sleeve, Signal- ties to the tip.
