Scenario:

Unison and Nodes transmit levels on NET-2 on the same EDMX addresses:

Start: Node Input: Priority 10, Unison Zones in Replace mode (highest Priority)  --> Unison is in control

Then: (e.g. Time of Day Macro): Unison changes Zones to be in Pile-On-Mode at priority 10.

--> You would expect that the NODE-DMX piles on with the Unison DMX


This does not really happen, if Levels on the Node DMX input don't change...
It only happens for channels on the input that actually do change..

--> The node levels can sit at 50%, and Unison e.g. at 10%... The Output will remain at 10% although you think you are in Pile-On until the level on the input of the node changes, and then it will go to that level. This could happen anytime and basically hours after unison switched over...
This makes troubleshooting difficult and creates very strange and weird effects...


Possible Reason:

ETC-Net-2 Protocol only transmits level changes, no continuous updates

If Unison Levels go to the same priority as the Node levels, the node knows that it can start transmitting levels, but does not transmit a full frame with its current levels, since nothing on the input has changed.


Workaround:

  1. Write a Q on the external control system that touches / wiggles all channels once, start that Q ~10 seconds after the takeover...
  2. Write the Unison Macro in a way that the zone properties go from replace over pass-trough to pile on, that way a forced transmit from the net-2 nodes happens...
  3. Investigate if you really need pile on, or if you can simply switch between pass through and replace modes...
