I have been asked many times when I started in this industry, the simple answer is birth. I remember going to my fathers shop after school as early as nine. I would sweep the floor, bench focus Altman 360's and re-stack paint pigment putting the new stuff in the back. All through HS I worked in his rental department putting rentals together and servicing equipment that is basically when I started to understand what this industry was all about. After HS I attempted to break away and become an EE, that lasted about a year and a half. Worked as a stagehand, production electrician and rigger from 86 to 99 when I started with ETC. First as a Field Service Engineer then Training and Documentation for TS and finally Marketing Events Technician. I set up ETC trade shows playing with all the new products before most get a chance, still work as a rigger/stagehand for IATSE local 251 am a member of the Navy Reserve and the Middleton Fire Department. I am currently on a one year leave fulfilling my duty of serving my country with the Navy. I have been extremely fortunate to get into this industry at the time I did, my foundation was auto transformers and have grown as the technology has evolved into what it is today.
