Here is my story, I working in an old building where the Smart Fade and Smart Soft are downstairs and I am up the catwalk trying to aim lights. The when i want to aim a separate part of the stage I have to walk downstairs switch the faders and climb back up again. Is there anyway that i can either network the Smart Fade so that i could access and control it fromm my laptop via a wirless connection?
ideas?
I don't suppose you have a really long DMX cable, or a DMX input port on the catwalk, do you? SmartFade isn't a network-capable product, but it is portable... :-)
I hope this helps...

Do you have two laptops available? You could set up a wireless network between the two laptops and use Remote Desktop Connection (or equivalent) to control the laptop running Smart Soft in the booth.

I just did a quick test using a USB extender between the SmartFade and the PC running SmartSoft.
I used an IOGEAR GUCE51 USB Ethernet Extender that I ordered from Newegg.com. Cost about $80.
The USB extnender allows up to 100' of Cat 5 wire between the console and PC.
After five whole minutes of testing, it works fine.
something like this any use?
