Hey I was wondering if anyone would recommend some hardware that can be hooked up to a computer via USB and then be hooked up to DMX for LED, gel changers, via control through the computer.

Any brands, suggestions???

Thanks

There are no products, so far as I am aware, that will allow you to output DMX data from an ETC Off-Line Editor. I have used it with the ChamSys software as well as LightJockey and a few other pieces for one-offs.

Oh I don't mean from ETC offline editor

I mean any brands/manufacturers or anything that make the hardware for USB-DMX that are recommended or known.

And as a second part of the question or a follow up one could say.

What are some software for the computer to use with that DMX-USB hardware.

That would be the ChamSys MagiQ the Martin Ligh Jockey, Freestyler or any of the other ones you might find here

The MagiQ  Here runs VERY similar to the High End Systems Whole Hog

Freestyler Here

Martin Lightjockey 2 Here

Hi John-

I think it's fair enough to plug our product on our own forum, so I will - please don't rule out the SmartFade ML along with SmartSoft on the PC/Mac. This will give you much better "hands-on" control of both movers and conventionals than a software-only package. A lot of people find that having actual hardware with buttons, faders, and encoders allow you to keep your eyes where they should be - on the stage. I know I do.

Once you've factored in the cost of a high-spec dedicated PC and a USB-DMX dongle, you may find that a SFML makes a lot of sense. But we'll leave that to you to decide.

Hope that helps-
