Fine/Course on EOS only?

I was curious if the fine/course switching using the encoder tap on the EOS would ever find it's way over to the ION. After working with movers over 100' throws day after day, the "move slower" to be more fine has proven troublesome. I wasn't sure if this was intentional to keep the EOS and ION separate in that respect of feature sets. But I know I'd love the option. Obviously without having to lose the tap to syntax line function of the encoders. Any thoughts?

Double Go w/ Wheel?

On two different occasions I have had my ION, execute two cues if i am scrolling the intensity wheel as I push go. When it happened one night, I dismissed it as my error, but then I had to to the same type of function a few nights later and it did it again. I couldn't tell if this had been discovered before or not. Maybe It's some strange occurrence, thought i'd put it out there and see if it had come up before.

P.S. My software isn't completely up to date because we are in the middle of a show run.

Fixtures stuck in certain colour palettes.

Hi, we found another strange anomoly today.

First we had a VL3500 that was put into R13 via direct command line; [CHANNEL][1] @ [COLOUR] 6/13 [ENTER]

LD fancied something a bit darker so tried R15. Same command line but colour didn't change. Then tried R90 (just to make sure it wasn't changing) and same thing. Couldn't take the colour out or change it all until I selected COLOUR HOME on the encoders. After that it worked fine.

Thought it was a one off until later when tried to move a Rainbow scroller from one colour to another (this time via colour palettes) and again it wouldn't change colour until after a COLOUR HOME command. Is there some sort of colour lock or some other obvious answer I'm missing?

Eos Offline and WYSIWYG

i know there are a number of posts liek this but none of them really helped me.

what im trying to do as u may guess is have both programs on one computer and have Eos offline control WYSIWYG, simple right.

anyways i cant seem to figure out all the nessisary network/setup bits and peices so what im asking is a complete idiots guide to this just so i dont miss anything

btw im running WYSIWYG r22 and vista ultimate 32 bit

Moving Lights Randomly Reset

I have 2 Mac 500's being used in a show that have been randomly reseting themselves throughout the workday and tech. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the reset: sometimes we're cueing, other times no one is at the console. I'd think that it was a fixture overheating problem, but I've seen both units reset at exactly the same time.

Here's the setup: Ion (Master), Eos (Client), Net3 RVI, Net3 Touring Gateway with DMX passed through several SeaChangers and Mac 500's powered from 208v SmartSwitch controlled outlet.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Ion Questions and Ramblings

1. What happens when an Ion hangs on boot up? It just freezes, and doesn't work? This is a pertinent issue.

2. What's the quickest way to drop all channels to zero? I thought maybe hitting [Enter] would grab all used channels, and then I could double-tap [Out], but that's not the case. What's the quickest way for me to do this?

3. When patching a channel to multiple intensity only addresses, it makes an extra unused part. Case Example: One channel, two lekos: Channel 5 @ Address 10 + Address 12 --> 5.1 - BLANK, 5.2 - 10, 5.3 - 12. What's going on here?

Wybron Coloram 2's

We have 184 Wybron Coloram 2's. Half are six inch, half are eight inch. They all have 26 frames. For the eight years that I have been around them, the have all always had exactly the same deviation. The frames land a little more off each time until halfway through then they drift back. The halfway point of the scrolls land at about DMX 122.

It just dawned on me today that if 184 of these things bought on at least three different occasions have the same deviation, maybe everyone else's do too. If that turns out to be true, then perhaps the fixture profile can reflect this.

Does anyone else have Coloram 2's? If so, do you see what I'm seeing? Would you find a less linear fixture profile useful?

Bonus Questions: Do you use the custon scroll function via the Encoder? If so, have you developed a simple procedure of not needing to calibrate you scrollers every show?

Enquiring mind wants to know.

Making many channels into one channel

So I have a fully written show that we converted over to EOS from Obsession II. All of the moving light info made it except for the Mac 2K Performances. So I've tried a couple things, but thought I would ask the wisdom of the community: Is there a way to force the info of a range of channels, into a personality for a moving light? Or to put it another way, is it possible to take a light that was just a collection of single-parameter channels and make it a multi-parameter channel after all the cues have been written? Obviously this is an attempt to preserve the cue info for these lights, without having to rewrite them into the whole show. Thanks!! Stephen Graham, 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle, WA

GOTo CUE OUT brings up channel 3

There might be a simple solution to this, but I'm at a loss. If I hit GOTO Cue 0 or GOTO Cue OUT, all lights black out and then channel 3 fades up to full. Why? I don't even have any cue lists recorded. Any suggestions?

Save As and Print to .pdf file names

As most of you have discovered, when you save as or print to a .pdf, we use a default "showfile" name. This was put in to allow users to save without putting in a label (so if you were using Ion or Element without a mouse or touchscreen, you had some way to save a file). To clear that, you have two options.

You can use the clear button as a backspace or

You can press the label button. That will clear the default name.

Just so you know, you know?

Design Spots 250 Profile Wrong

I noticed that when i recently updated the software to 1.8 that the Gobo Graphics have changes in the Elation Design Spot 250 the first pattern had lines and now has a prism graphic. Is there anyway this can be changed in the next update. Thanks

Move/Copy Data

I recently bought an ION and imported my Christmas show from Expression. I love it so far. I went through to patch my scrollers to the 'parts' of the repsective fixture channels keeping their old address. And I also patched my studio spots to new channels but kept their old address range.

The problem comes when I went to run my cues, my scroller 'levels' are not there in the channel part. They are still in the former Expression address/channel.The ION sees my Expression scroller channel levels as 'intensity' data. Same with the new patch for my studio spots, all imported channel data is assumed 'intensity' data.

I tried to brainstorm a way to transfer this data in to color data (or anything else). I went to the blind spreadsheet view and thought that I might possibly be able to say CUE 1 THRU 500 ENTER CHAN 201 ENTER COPY TO CHAN 9 PART 2. But this does not work probably because ION assumes the data in chan 201 is intensity data and I want to move it to color data. I hope that made sense.

Is there any hope for me other than to rerecord all non-intensity parameter data for the whole show? I guess I should be grateful that I have all my cues still :)

Partioning

A question about how the Eos/Ion partioning function "saves".

We have a design for a new building where the consultant wants to have a dimmer rack have dims 1-XX sent to one space (Theater Reh. Room) and dimmers above that to another space (Music Reh Space).

I'm aware that the consoles can partition the dimmers and channels to prevent call up and conflict, but does the partition information get saved on the console HD ?.

I do not want a scenario where a student presses "New Show:" while in the Theater space and to have all partition info lost. with conflicts resulting.

Likewise, I might end up sharing an Ion between the spaces and would desire to be able to call up the partition info. for a space, then do it again with another setup for the 2nd space.

Or: Is partitioning possible within the rack itself so as to not have dimmers 1-xx respond to any control from Room B ?.

Any help appreciated.

Move To syntax wishes

With my last couple projects, I've had a couple of wishes for a Move To syntax -- if anyone knows another easy way to do these, let me know.

1. [channel x] [move to] [channel y] would take the move instruction from channel x, copy it to channel y, then track through channel x (@ [enter]).

For example, the cue brings up channel 1 DR, but the blocking now has the actor DL. [1] [Move To] [5] [Update]. (and maybe doing an update-trace would do the Move To at the cue originating channel 1's track)

2. I often need to move a move instruction to an earlier cue, so what I'd want is something like [channel x] [move to] [cue last]. The current cue would then be a track, and the mark would adjust as well, unless the mark happened in the target cue, in which case I would get a warning.

I can do this now with Copy To the last cue (or Recall From the next cue) and at enter for the current cue, but it seems Move To would make this a 1 step process. If I remember correctly, Copy To requires the mark to be manually corrected as well.

Alternatively, maybe there could be an @ [enter] equivalent to bring a track forwards. @ [trace] [enter]? So, for example, channel 10 moves in cue 5. In cue 4, [10] [@] {trace} [enter] would put the move in cue 4 instead of 5.

Utilization Report

Found a bit of a bug this week on a PDF print-out from the console.

I was only looking at the Preset utilization of the document, but found a number of incidents where a channel that was definitely used in a Preset in the show, was showing up under the 'Channels Not Referenced by any Cue' section.

As I was about to use it as a reference to what needed to be updated (a bar was about to change height and needed refocusing), it was a bit of a worry.

Anne, I believe you already have my showfile from Crispy, but will happily send it to you again if needs be, Just thought it useful to alert people, to not necessarily trust the print-outs at the moment.

On a complete aside note....in 1.8, if I record a New Preset and then hit Mark I get bad syntax (ie it doesn't re-select my last channels, it selects my Last Preset). However, if I UPDATE a Preset then hit Mark it does what I want and selects the channels I've updated. Hmmmm.....which is correct? I'd love it to be that after a Preset Record I can hit Mark straight away, as that's how I tend to work building the Cues with marks as I go.

For example, did you know.....

That you can lock out the face panel on the desk by holding down [Clear] & [Escape] .... and unlock it the same way?

I'm patching in Studio Due Archi Bar 150/C's (http://www.studiodue.com/images/brochures/led/page-archibar150-low.pdf) These appear to have 9 channels. The only personality I can find in Eos / Ion is for ArchiLED (Archi_LED_150/C_RGBA) but this is 10 channels. Is this the right personality to use? Just want to check it is and that a personality has been written for this fixture. Thank you!

Recalling from a pallett which the channel is not in?

Im currently a week into programming on our show, (the desk is the ION)

One thing I stumbled across was that even though i can recall from another channel i.e. colour focus beam ect. I cannot recall from a pallett that the channel is not in, I understand why for obvious reasons, but me and the designer thought it could be a nifty feature instead of going

[channel][colour][beam][recallfrom][channel] to shortern it having [channel][recallfrom][pallett] it dosnt seem like much but in quick situations its would help alot.

Is this a feature that could be discusses to be added into the next update?

I'm trying to patch an Ion using the offline editor and was wondering if someone has the answer to a couple of questions...

One of the fixtures I'm trying to patch is a Clay Paky Alpha Beam 300. As far I can see there are only 2 modes that this unit can run in (Vect and Stnd modes). However, when I go to patch the unit there are 4 personality options to choose from. One of these (Alpha_Beam_300_S_L) has 19 channels, when the max number of channels on an Alpha Beam seems to be 18.

I'm confused!

This is an issue as have lots of fixtures and need to know that the personality is going to work when we go on site.

Anyone have any ideas how to be sure which personality I should use?

Edit a Preset

Last night some presets got recorded on our Eos running 1.8 with parameter we did not want. (Inten and Color). Much to my dismay I could not figure out how to edit the preset without those parameters. I tried to update and then re-record as well but it held the original preset information until I deleted and started over. Is this expected behavior or am I just doing something completely wrong.
