Just out of sheer curiosity, does the Element run on an x86 based system? What are its hardware specs? Does the Element Client software run on top of Windows Embedded, or a linux distro?

Element is indeed run on XP Embedded; I'm not sure of the hardware spec, but it is more than adequate. :)
Clients run on whatever your computer is runnning - XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
