When the screen goes dark I wish a button press just woke up the screen/backlight and didn't actually perform whatever function it was programmed for. My cell phone is like this. For example if I start to write a text message, put the phone down for a bit which causes the screen to go dark, then go back to texting, the first button I push on the phone just makes the back light come back on so you can see where you were prior to the screen blacking out.

Try hitting the more softkeys button. That is the least destructive command.
Thanks. That's an option and I thought about that after posting, but it would be nice to be able to hit any button.
We will change the behavior in the next release of RFR firmware. When the handheld is sleeping, the first button hit will only wake it up.
Thanks for your comments,

I actually miss being able to hit a command straight from sleep mode. I am constantly typing the wrong number (i.e. 45 instead of 145) as I haven't realized the RFR went to sleep. I looked for a setting to make the RFR stay on longer (I think this was a capability in one of the earlier releases), but I haven't found anything in 2.0. Have I missed some settings? I enjoyed the ability to define how long the RFR stayed on before sleeping. Also, could there be a setting in future releases to define whether or not we want the RFR to take our first keystroke? I'd really appreciate that.
I was using the 2.0 software and recently downgraded to the original. I like it better for several reasons one of which is the wake on keypress that you mention. It also seems to stay awake longer.
I'm with Tim. Please can you change it back and preferably make a setting to make it go to sleep after a longer interval or even not at all.
Liam.
The "Sleep Time" is an option you can set in the RFR in the same menu for setting the frequency and group ID.
Hold down the [C] key while turning it on, and then hit the {Next} softkey until you get to "Backlight Time" and increase that to a suitable value.
In v2 it defaults to 30 seconds - I don't remember the default in the older firmware.
Keep on trying till you run out of cake.
Nice one, thanks.
