I have a qustion regarding recording to the Stack on a SmartFade 2496. Is it possible to record sets of memories or more than one board channel at a time to a step? I'm in need of recording in a similar fashion to a full light board where I can customize each cue with different levels, but I can not do so with the limited number of memory slots on the board. Is this possible, or am I stuck with general lighting?

I only ask as I need to record 7 shows into the board, using memory cards to store on, but I can't store enough memories to contain each different scene I need.

IMHO a possible work around would be to save the combination of the memories you want, into a new memory, and saving that one into the stack... but this takes even more memories. To add the amount of possible steps in the stack you can also use the steps in between the numbers . you can use 1.1, 1.2, 1.3... 2.1... and so on, greatly increasing the amount of possible stack steps. I think you can have 199 steps in one stack list.

We are currently working on a new version of the SmartFade software. This version allows you to set up your levels and record them to the sequence as you go, similar to a conventional desk. It is no longer necessary to record references to channels or memories to the main stack. In the new version, you can store levels directly in the sequence step without having to record memories first (in addition to the old channel or memory reference method).

This new version will be in public beta on September 4th.

Jeroen, what do you mean by new memory? From what I know, and that isn't much, I have a single set of 44 memories to work with. Is this not correct?

I think I'm find on the number of steps. We have 99 available, and each show should take no more than 30. I will place in the x.x cues if needed.

 Anders, that is fantastic news. Except for the fact my shows go up on the 4th. I have to have it all programmed by this Friday. It's minimalistic theater, so I'm just telling directors to work with our general lighting so I can hopefully stick with few memories and not customize each step.

You have 44 memory sliders, but have 12 memory pages.  Just press and hold [MEMS] and it will ask for the page #.  Press the bump button of the page you want to go to.  For instance, for page 2, press & Hold [MEMS] and press bump [2] and it will switch to page 2.  If you press the [MEMS] button twice(double click) it will revert back to Page 1 automatically.

That was also what I meant with 'new memories'. Use the other banks using the mem button. 44 x 12 = 528, and besides isn't it also possible to save memories to the 44-48 memory places? That would add 4 x 12 = 48 memories. Mostly I set my scenes in the first 11 banks and then keep the 12th bank as a sort of summary, where I combine several memories into a single memory, or to use memories as a sort of submasters.

The new functionality of the smartfade software will be greatly welcome. Thx in advance. Will this beta also connect to a Smartsoft on pc like the Smartfade ML does?

An interesting function in a newer Smartfade soft woulb be to combine sequences from the 44-48 sequence buttons into the main stack, in order to run and stop a sequence from the main stack.

We're on the 4th of september ! I can't wait anymore !!!

There are two parts of this:

- A new version of SmartSoft (2.0) that supports all Smart consoles (and has some new features and improvements as well)

- A new version of the desk software (also called 2.0) that communicates with the new SmartSoft version and includes some long-awaited new features (like Direct Cues)

Due to the upcoming PLASA exhibition, the time for the public beta has been delayed appr. 1 week.

There is no doubt that is cruel... I was holding out programming a show until tonight so I could use the new software. Oh well, back to plan A.

I am sorry about the delay. We don't want to be cruel to all users eagerly waiting for the new SmartSoft version. However, we do want to make sure that everything works as good as possible before we release it to the public and we had some last minute findings that we wanted to correct...

Worry not. I'm not mad or anything. I had plan A and was just hoping, on a whim, for plan B. I'm fine where I am. I'm only messing with you. I apologize as sarcasm doesn't travel well through plain text very well. I will be glad when it is released, but it's not even close to the end of the world if its not.
